Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge

W5NWR operated portable from the Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma March 12-13, 2005 pursuant to a permit issued by the Fish and Wildlife Service. The FWS issued a certificate memorializing the Amateur Radio operation. This operation demonstrated that Amateur Radio use of a national wildlife refuge can occur with no negative impact on the refuge or wildlife and can be a source of advocacy for the refuge system.

Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge
lies at the upper Washita arm of Lake Texoma and is administered for the benefit of migratory waterfowl in the Central Flyway. The refuge consists of 16,464 acres, including the 4,500-acre Cumberland Pool. The operator pictured at left wears headphones to avoid disturbing wildlife.
